Secondary Strategy
The Secondary Strategy attempts to "raise standards of achievement for children and young people in all phases and settings". Moreover it strives to ensure that "underachieving pupils fulfil their potential in English and Mathematics by benefiting from teaching and learning that matches their needs".
In particular the emphasis is on helping pupils make progress in Year 9 (their SATs year) and Year 11 (their GCSE year). This is done by using a number of tools to measure performance and intervening to make a difference to their examination results.
Year 9
All pupils have received their target grades for their SATs exams at the end of this year. Pupils can help improve their own performance by using SAM Learning, an online service the school has bought into. Your child can access the Sam Learning website at home and at school by logging on from any computer using the following details:
| Centre ID: | ws11cc |
| User ID: | ddmmyyds - date of birth followed by your initials |
| Password: | same as your user ID until you change it |
Year 11
Year 11 have two grades per subject - a target grade that shows what they should achieve and an aspirational grade which is achievable with greater effort. Sticking to these grades is important throughout the year and they are monitored through our internal monitoring systems to ensure they do not fall behind.
Year 11 pupils who make use of SAM Learning can expect to raise their GCSE results by 5%. Monthly challenges will be set for them to encourage their involvement in the project, as well as specially designed work in their Maths, English and Science.
We now have sufficient information about our Year 8 pupils to set interim targets, leading up to their more challenging targets for their SATs. These are published in November.
