Work Related Learning

There is a statutory requirement for work related learning which requires that all Key Stage 4 pupils should be prepared for work, learn about work and learn through work. There is an emphasis on direct experience.

The government conducted a review of enterprise and economy in education and the recommendations came into play in September 2005. Enterprise Education develops new skills for pupils which meet the enterprise needs of the economy.

At Cannock Chase High School we have embraced these valuable requirements by providing a varied menu of opportunities for our pupils. These are illustrated by the following examples.

  • An Enterprise Forum made up of school members and partner businesses identify and implement opportunities for pupils to develop enterprising skills across all subject areas
  • Years 7-13 are involved in fundraising activities for local and international charities
  • Year 9 and 10 take part in Enterprise Days run in collaboration with local businesses
  • Cannock Chase High School is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce
  • All Year 10 pupils take part in two weeks Work Experience at the start of July. They use the experience gained as part of their Citizenship Qualification
  • Some pupils in Key Stage 4 take part in extended work experience and/or courses run by training providers
  • Local business personnel act as mentors
  • Vocational taster days
  • Young Enterprise in Year 12
  • Vocational experience as part of courses in AS and A level
